A Critical Study of Egyptian Priest Zakriya Butras' objection to the marriage of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) with Zainab
Abstract
Zakriya Butras is an Egyptian priest and prominent orientalist. Since Arabic is his mother tongue, therefore he has direct approach to Islamic literature. Nowadays he hosts a TV channel named "Alfadi" in which he gives lectures against Islam, Prophet Muhammad and Quran. In addition to this he has written several books and articles in English and French which are there on his official website. Butrus, like other orientalists views islam by partial and prejudiced glances and spreads misconceptions regarding Islam, Quran and about the prophet of Islam. He presents these misconceptions in the form of objections and criticism. In list of his publications one of his book is "wives of Muhammad (PBUH)" in which he has made his marital life the subject of criticism. He has specifically criticised the wedlock of Syeda Zainab with prophet Muhammad and presented it in a strategic way to defame the personality and chastity of prophet Muhammad. He objects that the prophet fell in love with Zainab after her marriage with Zaid ibn Harisa and says that the prophet made them to divorce so that he himself will marry Zainab. In this article objections of Butrus are critically examined.
