Abstract

Dower is a sum of money or property which the wife is entitled to receive from husband in consideration of marriage. It is regarded as a financial right of wife and is a payable debt on husband. Quran, Sunnah and The Islamic Jurisprudence have explained the concept of dower in detail.In this article the definition of dower, its various kinds and its legal status have been discussed in light of the Islamic sources
