The purpose of this study is to present the argument of including Pashto Language in ‘O’ Level Cambridge University International Examinations System (CIE.)Major objectives of the study were to highlight the significance of imparting education to the students in their mother tongue and using mother language as medium of instructions in school. It was also to describe the conspicuous features of ‘O’ Level (CIE) education and the importance of language in this internationally recognized education system. The argument for the inclusion of Pashto was delimited to General Certificate of Education (GCSE) and International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE) ‘O’ Level (CIE) and was particularly restricted to the University of Cambridge International Examinations System (CIE). This study recommended that Pashto language should be included in GCE and IGCE ‘O’ Level CIE in the optional modern regional languages for Pashto speaking students across the globe. Due to its international importance,it was also recommended that Pashto language has the potential to be included and taught as modern regional language in CIE.

By using linear regression model and Least-Squares Estimation LSE estimator to estimate the parameters in accidents data in Libya where there are three kind of accidents "death, heavy injuries, simple injuries" data and after analysis it. In order to explain the effects of these variables to number of road accidents, fuzzy linear regression models with level of significance 0.1 and 0.5 are tested. it find that the simple linear regression can be used, using the hypotheses it find models are crossing the origin point, also the models used to prediction the numbers of accidents for few next years, it has been hypothesized that number of road accidents and road casualties are increased in line with the raise in the variables of registered vehicles, population and road length.

The main purpose of this review of the article is to analyze critically to what extent the author has been successful in capturing the essence of literature review by addressing the key issues like: how faulty literature review leads to derail of a dissertation; how to write high-quality dissertation literature review; purpose of writing literature review; taxonomy of literature review; steps to conduct literature review; common mistakes and framework for the self-evaluation of a literature review. The researcher used Cooper’s (1988) taxonomy of literature reviews (CTLR) as methodological tool to critically review the claims of the author. The researcher found the article an interesting and useful work of the author in providing guidelines about writing literature reviews. The findings support most of the claims of the author regarding the guidelines provided. The author’ discourse on the topic found to be consistent and engaging except a few points which still demand more clarity to understand, which opens new space for writers to develop a comprehensive framework like using an integrative framework of literature review.

It is passingthrough one of the most critical junctures of its history where internal security challenges are haunting it like a curse. The multiple challenges which the country is facing nowadays are ranging from crisis of individuality to governance, from insecurity to collapsing state of economy. The apparent insecurity and instability in the country owes itself to these ‘multiplities’ of crisis. This paper, through descriptive methodology, attempts to unleash the vulnerabilities which the country is facing internally and are needed to be measured up to avoid the catastrophe of becoming a failed state. The purpose of our work is to highlight the problems in Pakistan, which are weakening the country and suggests remedies to those.

Effective teaching and learning process is essential for providing quality education at all levels. This research addresses growing quality concerns of Pakistan’s educational sector and makes a case for shifting the focus from teacher-centered to student-centered learning process for quality educational experience. A conceptual framework for effective learning is presented based upon studies of educational psychology, cognitive learning and personal teaching experience. The framework combines student-centered teaching strategies with classroom assessment techniques to create a dynamic and interactive classroom environment. To create an organizational context conducive for effective learning the framework assigns roles and responsibilities to all the stakeholders and requires their active participation and collaboration

This paper reflects an introduction and critical analysis of a custom called Vani. It is widely practiced with diverse names in different areas of Pakistan. This ancient tradition is tied to blood feuds among the various tribes and clans, where the females are forcibly married to the members of different tribes for the dispute settlement. Habitually Vani is affected in the cases of murder, kidnapping and robbery. Inequality/discrimination, law disregard, poor education, poverty, landlord system etc. are fundamental reasons for existence of such type norms. It has become an evil of the society. This is an un-Islamic practice as Islam does not allow a forced marriage. Having different comprehensive laws about every clash Islam has no example/direction to give Vani to settle a heated discussion. It is necessary only to awake the heartfelt public about such type of customs and to allocate their influence to stop it.

There has been a recent trend in fostering quality cultutre in higher educatin institutes. Students evaluation of teachers and courses at the end of semester are an integral part of Quality Assessment process. It has been heavily debated in academic communities that whether students are competent enough to judge teacher and course quality. Furthermore in semester system where grading is solely in the hands of faculty student’s opinion can be biased . In this paper we have carried out an empirical study to understand the student evaluation practices. Our study highlights that in some cases the students may be biased but generally they are very objective in portraying the ground realities.

This paper attempts to unleash the structural components which differed in changing the frame of rule of the states that came into the map of the world on exactly the same day named India and Pakistan. Having shared values, culture, colonial experience, same structure India managed to procure a robust democracy while in Pakistan democracy is still perceived as a mean of conducting procedural balloting. India secured functional institutions while in Pakistan still the coordination of powers among the institutions is missing. The paper attempts to strategize the solutions of the predicaments which the state of Pakistan is facing in the light of India’s experiences. It highlights the different loopholes of democratic rule in Pakistan that remained unsettled at its inception. The paper in detail examines the state and polity of both states in post –independence era and tries to trace out the factors that enable India in procuring a substantive frame of governance. The lessons and precedents that the state of Pakistan should follow from India’s democratic development have also been elaborated exhaustively.Purpose: Purpose of the paper is to explore and identify the diverging structural patterns within the comparative politics. Methodology: Explanatory research methodology has been taken up along with qualitative data analysis. Terminology: India in its beginning succeeded in paving a way towards the institutionalization of the political processes that resulted in the consolidation of democratic norms in India whereas on other hand Pakistan can learn from India’s experiences to make democratic rule more participative and functional. Significance: The study is extremely relevant as Pakistan apparently is a primary victim to the fragile political rule.

Kahneman and Tversky’s approach to preference under uncertainty is aversion to loss realization. This paper is an attempt to highlight this phenomenon with a unique approach. In order to beat the market fund managers are required to manage their portfolio at regular intervals. The tendency to sell the winners too early and ride the losers for long “disposition effect” can affect the Management decision of fund managers. This paper investigates the mediating role of disposition effect between mental accounting, aversion to regret, self control and portfolio Management. For this purpose we use the extended version of Shefrin and Statman framework and include Dyl’s tax consideration. In order to provide empirical evidence survey has been conducted from mutual fund managers. CFA and Cronbach’s alpha is used to test the reliability of the instrument. AMOS tool is used to test the structure equation model for disposition effect and portfolio Management. Results confirmed that disposition effect plays significant role of mediator between mental accounting, aversion to regret, self control and portfolio Management. However tax consideration has direct loading on forward Management. It means that disposition effect plays significant role in decisions of fund managers; however investors are aware of tax consideration.

“The yellow wallpaper” authored by Charollete Perkins Gilman at the start of the 19th century is considered as a champion of feminist literature. It is interpreted as the story of women suppressed in phallocentric society. It is popularly celebrated as tale of woman winning her due place in a society where men rule and women obey. My research focuses on psychoanalytic reading of this powerful short story. It is trying to probe deep down into the psyche of the protagonist of the story and obviously writer of the story. The feminists interpretation celebrate it as liberation of women in 19th century by their husbands, brothers and men in several other roles in their surroundings.

Secondary school students finds science contents as an organized body of knowledge. They mostly memorize the facts, laws, principles and concepts and recall it in examination. This study is aimed to assess the extent to which the secondary school science students can apply physics concepts in problem situations, everyday life and natural phenomenans. Influencing factors such as home facilities, parent’s education, occupation, and family demographic variables of the secondary school science students were also investigated through a Questionnaire survey. Relationship was explored between the physics concept application abilities of the secondary school science students and the influencing factors. The students’ application abilities of physics concepts measured on concept application ability test were found as 33 %, a significantly low performance. The private sector secondary school science students performed remarkably better than the public sector students and no significant differences were found between the performance of boys and girls students of the same level among both the sectors. Comparatively, the private sector students and girl students in both sectors were found in better position with respect to their home facilities, parental support, education and occupation and some other demographic variables. Positive causal relationship was explored between students’ physics concept application abilities in terms of scores on concept application ability test and the mentioned influencing factors.

Mass media can be defined as venues for messages that are created for consumption by large numbers of people. The media have remarkable impact on politics. This research study is intended to find out and analyze editorial treatment of national and international political issues by National English Dailies (Daily Dawn, Daily News & Daily Nation) from January 1, 2014 to March 31, 2014. Content analysis was used to explore editorial treatment. Editorials of the selected papers were taken as the Unit of Analysis. The Researchers selected all the papers published during the study’s stipulated period for analysis. The reason behind the selection of all the newspapers is that during the selected period so many important incidents occurred. Overall, 90 newspapers were analyzed. Coding sheet was used to gather data. Findings show that daily “The Nation” published more National political issues than others in select time period. It is also observed that daily “DAWN” published more international political issues than national. It is further observed that English dailies gave less space in favor of internal political issues. Results also show that the English dailies “DAWN”, “The New” and “The Nation” in term of treatment of national /international politics in the editorial gave more space to the Neutral sentences than favorable and unfavorable sentences.

The present study is a case specific attempt to explore the impact of English textbooks (New Headway Plus Special Edition) on Saudi EFL learners’ cultural attitudes their English proficiency outcome. It reviewed literature on the significance of target culture in ESL/EFL settings and its influence on learners’ learning outcomes. The current research underpinned a mix-method approach which led to qualitative and quantitative data collection through a questionnaire. The questionnaire was built on both close and open-ended questions which were comprehensively analyzed separately. The findings revealed that the textbook fails to foster the element of intercultural understanding mainly due to nonexistent Islamic or Saudi depiction; however, on the contrary, its impact on learners’ performances was not much dispiriting. Moreover, learners with good English proficiency achieved better mastery in not only the linguistic aspects of the language but absorbed its cultural elements as well in comparison to those who were less proficient. Given the findings it can be recommended that with the inclusion of the students’ own culture, learners may broaden their horizon and general outlook towards their own and other communities represented in the textbook. Therefore, the curriculum designers and practitioners should bear in mind the crucial role of EFL learners’ cultural aspects while designing textbooks.

This research study investigates the relationship and the effects of budget deficit and money growth on inflation in the case of Pakistan’s economy. The data was gathered from different sectors in Pakistan. The data was collected from yahoo finance, ADB, KSE and State Bank of Pakistan. The period covered by this study is twenty six years starting from 1986-2011. The regression analysis test was used to examine/determine the results that were found/experienced during the research work. In regression analysis ANOVA, correlation of coefficients, and regression model test was used to analyze the results that were applied on the information gathered through secondary sources. The results show that there is a positive association of budget deficit and money growth on inflation. In general the key outcomes indicate that financing and government expenditures could have different effects. Therefore, it is very difficult to differentiate between current and capital expenditures. Budget deficit increase inflation in country and due to this there is decrease in money growth of a country.

This paper examines the relationship and the impact of interest rate and CPI difference from one year to another on the exchange rate of the home country. This particular study has been conducted in the context of Pakistan which serves to be the home country, and the empirical findings are made in relation to China, Japan, UK and USA. The study uses the panel data concerning the exchange rate, interest rate and CPI difference for all the five countries ranging from the first quarter of 1991(Q1) to the last quarter of 2011(Q4). The results of the study validate the conjecture of the literature that in the long-run, inflation affects the exchange rate in a positive way, while interest rate prevailing in a country has a negative impact on the exchange rate. The results of the panel data regression on the cumulative data of all the countries, with fixed-effect and random-effect shows that the relationship prevails but both the CPI difference and interest rate affects the exchange rate to a very insignificant level. Comparatively, the results of LSDV, which involved evaluating the coefficients on the country-specific level, shows that interest rate and CPI change has significant impact on the exchange rate.

One of the teaching learning purposes of schooling is the social and psychological development of a child. Every field of today’s life is a slave of technology, which is in the state of flux. The role of physics is dominated of all other subjects in the school. Motivation of “doing” is important than simply acquiring knowledge. Physics suite is a set of strategies which enables the students ‘to learn to do’ in real life and enables them to be a socially active member of a society as well as psychologically sound personality. Main objective of the study was to examine the understanding of the learners taught by physics suite at secondary level in Pakistan. A null hypothesis “there is no significant difference between the mean scores of pupils taught with physics suite and those with traditional method”. Post-test only equivalent group design was used for the collection of data. A group of 40 students was observed, as experimental and control group comprising 20 students each. After six weeks data was collected through post test and analyzed using t test. Significant difference was found between the mean scores of experimental and control groups and the null hypothesis was rejected.

The term Corporate Social Responsibility has evolved ever since it was coined in second half of 20th century. Broadly, CSR is a way a business achieves a balance or integration of economic, political, social and ethical dimensions; while at the same time addressing shareholder and stakeholder expectations. CSR is a concept whereby corporate organizations take social responsibility and create products or services for greater good of the society and consistent with the interests of customers, suppliers, employees, shareholders, communities and other stakeholders, as well as the environment. Most of the time, these activities and actions are considered to be on voluntarily basis to improve society. The way businesses engage/involve the shareholders, employees, customers, suppliers, governments, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, and other stakeholders is usually a key feature of the concept. However, considering various entities or stakeholders stated above, it is not surprising to note that conflict of interest exists among various stakeholders in respect of activities performed by a particular organization. Thus, a need arises to rethink the normative approaches to CSR and evaluate other avenues for a better solution. Considering that CSR is interdisciplinary and affects many facets of society simultaneously, it is considered that coopetition may hold the key to solve complex relationship of various stakeholders and their conflict of interests. Coopetition is a promising and challenging perspective to understand cooperation between competing individuals and/or organizations. In the literature, coopetition phenomenon has been connected with strategic alliances, territorial development work, and resource-based view. This Paper aims to relate the coopetition phenomenon with CSR to create a sustainable partnership between various stakeholders.

This study examines the work-family conflict and decision making styles of faculty members in higher education sector of Pakistan. This describes the impact of work-family conflict on decision making styles of faculty members. Study also highlighted the role of individual demographics in predicting the work-family conflict and decision making styles. Three hypotheses are generated for the present research work including; (i), work-family conflict has significant impact on the decision making styles of faculty members; (ii), there is significant difference of work-family conflict of faculty members based on gender, marital status and university sector; and, (iii) there are significant differences of preferred decision making styles of faculty members based on gender, marital status and university sector. Questionnaire method is utilized to collect data from the targeted sample. A total of 489 questionnaires were distributed from which 352 received back with a response rate of 72%. Simple linear regression analysis is utilized to test hypotheses H1 while t-test analysis, Mann Whitney U test, ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis test are used to study hypotheses H2 and H3. Results of the regression analysis for hypothesis H1 suggest that work-family conflict negatively predicts rational and intuitive decision making styles and positively predicts avoidant and spontaneous decision making styles while no association found with dependent decision making style. Comparative analysis based on individual demographics for hypotheses H2 and H3 describes that gender; marital status and sector of employment of faculty members influence their work-family conflict and decision making styles. All of the hypotheses were partially supported based on the current research findings. This research work describes both academic and professional issues and its findings can be comprehensively utilized for the betterment of higher education sector of Pakistan.

This paper attempts to evaluate impact of major factors affecting leather exports from Punjab, Pakistan employing secondary sources of data. For time series analysis, data (1980 to 2010) were collected from various sources and used to develop an export supply function at macro-level. The value of the finished leather exports from Pakistan was taken as dependent variable, whereas export price, real exchange rate, trade openness and number of animal skins and hides were taken as independent variables. Co-integration analysis and Error Correction method were employed to estimate short and long run elasticities. According to the findings, exchange rate showed a negative effect on exports of finished leather. The coefficient of this variable explains that for every one percent increase in exchange rate there might be 5.2 percent decrease in exports of finished leather in the long run. In the similar context, Real GDP, share of semi manufactured goods exports and trade openness showed effect of 3.1, 0.72 and 2.4 percent increase in the export supply of finished leather in the long respectively. Export prices showed negative relationship with value of finished leather exports. The coefficient of this variable suggested that for every one percent increase in the export prices there might be -3.5 percent decreases in the export supply of finished leather in the long run. Based upon the findings, it is suggested exchange rate of Pakistani rupee should be stabilized with strengthening industry of semi manufactured leather goods in the country.

Motivation plays a fundamental role in teaching learning process. Motivation boosts the learners’ behavior for active learning to attain specific study goals. It facilitates students obtain information, knowledge, develop interpersonal skills, increase creativity, and develop a sense of discipline. This study aimed to investigate the effects of supplementary exams on motivational level of learners in Open Distance Learning (ODL) at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). It was also attempted to identify different remedies to upraise the motivational level of distance learners. The population comprised of post graduate level students (who appeared in supplementary exams in Autumn 2012) of Faculty of Education. A random sample of 100students was taken. Questionnaire was developed and administered on the sample through survey. Questionnaire was validated through expert opinion (face validity). Data was analyzed in SPSS. Major findings of the study revealed that supplementary exams lower the motivational level of students for further learning. It was suggested that supplementary training/classes may be arranged for the learners who fail in exams in first attempt. Moreover, online tutorial support may also be arranged for such learners. To maximize the motivational level of learners, experts, psychologists, counselors, teachers, and parents may be consulted to lessen the effects of supplementary exams for the continuation and completion of learning process.

The constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973, after 18th amendment, under Article 25(A) provides free and compulsory secondary education as fundamental right for Pakistanis and responsibility of the state. On April 19th, 2010 the president of Pakistan signed this document. The government of Pakistan has therefore made constitutional efforts to synthesize the importance and need of free and compulsory secondary education. The implementation of this provision is on the part of provincial government after 18th amendment. The main objectives of this study were: 1. to understand the constitutional provisions about right to education as fundamental right and actual situation of schools for its implications. 2. to make recommendations to the government of the Punjab for the effective implication of article 25th A. The fundamental values of a country are reflected in its legal system that is encompassing the normative and social structure. The comprehensive legal structure in Pakistan treats domestic violence by taking into consideration two most important components, i.e. the constitutional law and the legal frame work designed in the light of implementation of Shariah principles. In this Article, the legal treatment of domestic violence in Pakistan is examined to conjecture about the attitudes of variant mind-set to gender issues under the law in Muslim societies. The response to domestic violence is articulated in the values infused in constitution or law making or while devising fundamental values promulgated in the implementation of shariah. The legislation must be based on the foundations of Shariah’s philosophy in Pakistan to demonstrate that implementing shariah Laws as per social change will promote awareness of women rights in the country.

This study intends to find the impact of political and catastrophic events on stock returns of Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE-100 Index). A total of forty three political and four catastrophic events have been considered from May 1998 to September 2013. Political events are further divided into two groups i.e., favorable political events and unfavorable political events. The impact is checked for political, catastrophic, favorable political and unfavorable political events for 1 day, 5 days, 10 days and 15 days event windows. The results suggest that mean returns before and after political events were different on 5 days window. Thus, political events do have an impact on stock returns, however, it does not last longer and returns are normalized afterwards. Similarly, favorable political events also have impact on stock returns only on 5 days window. Unfavorable political events show abrupt (one day) impact and 5 days impact. Catastrophic events show no impact on stock returns using 1 day, 5 days and 10 days event windows. However, the impact was observed on 15 days event window. These results indicate that Karachi Stock Exchange is inefficient in semi strong form.

In the 21st century, Globalization has become the most significant process. The opportunities which emerged parallel to developing technology have removed the borders between countries and people. From now on, people could simultaneously receive the news from the other end of the world. Besides; after industrial society, the knowledge society which rose with the development of science and technology provides people with any information handily in a short time. The fundamental dynamics of the society, which were based on the power of the machine and people in the industrial society, are now based on acquiring knowledge. This paper examines the acceptance of SMS marketing on the basis of the role of users’ consent which plays a vital role in its success. This study is of qualitative nature, and is conducted in the context of Pakistan. Data for the study was gathered using twenty semi-structured interviews from two groups each of ten members. The first group (G1) comprised of University level students, while the other group comprised of members from general public. Convenient sampling as a non-probability sampling was used. This study is cross-sectional because the interviews were conducted at one point of time. For analysis purpose, NVivo 10 was used with the help of which the transcribed interviews were assessed. The results of the study show that the marketers should not bombard the subscribers with SMS ads without their consent and permission. Other than consent, the frequency and the timing at which these advertising messages are sent to the users should not be random, and be controlled. The content which is sent by the Mobile Network Operator (MNO) should also be evaluated and controlled, and the SMS advertisements should be checked for the spam.

Modern technology is akin to a double edged dagger, which helps when held right and hurts when tried razors side. Right technology in wrong hands becomes a dexter sinister complexity. Technology helps society to improve health, education, communication and prosperity but all at the expense of a high crime rate. Man is behind all innovatory technologies, which now have started to control the master himself. As being a victim of one’s own creation, technologists now have to look for intelligent ways that explain how we can use the same existing technology to control these rampant crimes. Technology has brought about an information revolution in our society at the expense of wreaking terrorism havoc. Security agencies use smart devices but criminals have access to smarter alternatives as well. It’s time to choose between personal freedom and collective security. We have to be cautious during public debates as media discourse creates more heat than light. Opportunities, social injustices and starvations create a vacuity for crime. Crime science explores the delinquencies persuading rampant social crimes. We live in a jinxed society taken over by inherited leaders, inherent intellectuals and fake saints (pir) sunk in black/white magic mores. This paper tries to investigate mind set of demoniac people using incantations to evict apparitions and apotropaic to protect from evil eyes. All the mystic, virtual and ritual myths explored were found wealth and women centric. It is difficult to forecast crime but exposing haunting magic and mapping hot spots helps increase awareness and take preventive measures.

Women’s access to education must be treated as their fundamental right. And it is only through education that they would get the chance to prepare themselves in order to play their roles in nation’s social, economic and political spheres as equal members of society. In Bangladesh, very few women can enjoy such rights and live a healthy and prestigious life. At present due to government initiatives, girl’s enrolment in primary and secondary education is little bit higher than the boys. Despite of such encouraging scenario, there is a dark side behind this. Due to prejudice, mistaken education from family and society, lack of security, dropout rate of girls is higher and their retention rate is low. Though there are facilities with free education till secondary education, lack of social motivation, mistaken education and increasing rate of violence against in different form, refrain them from education and encourage them in child marriage. Marriage is considered as the alternative to education, which ultimately leads to violence against women due to unpaid dowry. The article will analyse the issues of dowry from some case studies, which will give the indication of the real causes of dowry and how education in a real sense is lacking behind this evil.

The present study was designed to evaluate the perceptions of adult female learners about teachers, content and method of teaching of adult literacy programmes. The design of the study was qualitative and interview protocols along with focus group discussions were applied as research tools. The sample of the study consisted of 94 respondents including 46 adult female neo-literates, 24 literacy teachers 14 supervisors and 10 community workers selected through random and criterion sampling techniques. The data were analyzed by constant comparison method. The major findings were; teacher should treat adult learners respectfully; content of adult literacy should be developed according to the needs and aspirations of learners and teachers should make the teaching learning process interesting. It was suggested that teachers may be trained in andragogical perspectives and content of literacy programmes may be designed after careful and systematic situation analysis of adults’ needs.Present study was conducted to explore psychological considerations which one should keep in mind while implementing adult literacy programmes in Pakistan. Generally the major inputs in adult literacy programmes are; the trained adult literacy teachers and content of basic literacy skills. In order to comprehend the nature of proper inputs for adult literacy programmes it seems necessary to highlight some characteristics of adult learners. Adult learners expect a learning environment e.g., (where they are respected, their opinions are valued; their interests are kept in mind etc.). Scholars and researchers suggest that adults are a group of learners who possess individual, group or situational characteristics that serve to differentiate them from children.

Self-efficacy is the persons’ judgement about their capabilities to organize and execute the action to attain the desired level of performance. Personal belief about capabilities to complete the task successfully show the behavioral choices, persistance, perforamnce and attitude. It helps to explain why people differ widely even having same knowledge, skills and abilities. Will I succeed or fail? Will I be liked or laughed at? Should I do it or not? Answers of these questions are based on personal efficacy (competence). Expectations of success or failure at a particular task is influenced by the sense of self-efficay in that area. High self-efficacy students engage in more effective self-regulatory strategies at each level of ability. High self-efficacy has been demonstrated by high academic achievement. On the contrary, low self-efficay destroy the personality that leads to anxiety, depression and other negative traits. Some low self-efficacious students give up on or never begin a task that leads to failure. 264 students of secondary classes from private and government high schools of Rawalpindi were randomly selected to administer a self-prepared 21 item Likert scale. Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient was applied by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The results showed that academic achievement was associated with sense of self-efficacy. Self-efficacious students are competent to approach difficult tasks to take mastery. High self-efficacious students show their competency as they put required effort to get their targets. They are able to solve even more difficult problems. Self-efficacy increases the self competency among students.

A long discussion in literature exist to answer the question how a fund manager can generate extra returns? In order to answer the question this study is concerened with two aspects of this problem. First at discuss the portfolio construction process from separation theorem to modern style tilts. And in second step it provide imperical evidence for superior performance of style tilts. First of all active and passive style of management are compared. Data on returns is taken from KSE for five years and two sets of style based portfolios are constructed. Strong evidence is found in favor of active style of management. Actively managed funds are used as proxy for tilted portfolios. Data of Net asset value is taken from MUFAP. Tilted portfolios are tested for Size and value tilts. This study confirms higher performance of portfolio with style tilts.

This paper gives an analytical insight about the influencing impact of marketing mix 5 P’s (Product, Price, Promotion, Packaging, and Placement) on sales of UPS industry for Karachi market from a buyer’s point of view. Since all P’s of marketing mix have its own level of impact on sales but vary from product to product and market to market. Pakistani UPS market is to huge extent undocumented and untouched having very high level of competition and low profit margin. We have the 5 P’s as our independent variables whereas sales as dependent variable. Collection of primary data have been done through a questionnaire comprising of mixed questions like 5-likert scale, MCQs, open ended, and rating scale based on the buyers’ opinions. The collected data were analyzed through multiple regressions to know the significance of relationship of individual P of marketing mix with sales by using t-test and the strength and nature of relationship by Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient. The overall significance of model was tested through ANOVA. The descriptive statistics were also used to determine average level of point of views as well as the variation in the buyers’ opinions. The final result of this study reveals that out of 5 only 4 P’s (product, price, placement, and promotion) have positively significant impact on sales whereas the packaging has negative and very low level of impact on sales. It does imply that product, placement, promotion, price have descending level of impacts on sales in UPS market, respectively.

Pakistan is a developing country. It is located in the north-western part of South Asia having a total area of 796,095 square kilometers. Its topography is diverse with mountains and hills on the western and north western side, a fertile Indus basin plain in the centre and east, a desert in the south and a long coastal fringe in the south and west. Radio broadcasts have full coverage except hilly areas. One of the major problems which the educationists in Pakistan face is that of reaching the mass of the people. Pakistan is by no means, in comparison with other parts of the world, a densely populated country. The areas are generally large and thickly populated with exceptions where population is quite scarce and are thinly inhabited. In urban areas it is possible to collect homogeneous groups together to make face-to-face teaching methods worthwhile and economical, although even in this situation the demand for education often outweighs the supply of adequately qualified teachers. But what of the rural areas over which the bulk of population is scattered? Radio can help to provide a solution. They can be used for teaching purposes in towns and cities being the only way in which teaching can be achieved in rural areas.

The sense of social belonging has often been difficult to resist. It is almost always the case that we get to be defined by where we prefer to belong on a social level. There appears to be, however, very little public concern for those who prefer not to belong anywhere. Individual resistance to social imperatives to fit in a particular group by the standards of sex, for example, often meets with public resistance to grant social acceptance. The resulting effect of this is usually equated with a resolute choice not to belong anywhere—that is to say, to remain unnamed, uncategorized and undefined. It is for this reason that queerness does not easily lend itself to definitions. The aim of this study is thus to demonstrate with an example from literature, namely George as the central character in Christopher Isherwood’s novel A Single Man, that queerness might as well be read from a phenomenological perspective in understanding the state of a queer being in between. Phenomenology has been chosen as the method of investigation into the way in which George as a homosexual male character can (not) relate to his environment, since it supplies ways to live an experience of someone ‘out there’ from within, rather than to make an attempt to observe the situation from afar. Central to the investigation has been a search for an answer to the question of what it is to be like George, rather than what George is like.

Supporting environment provided to employees ensures high performance. This idea led researchers to examine workplace fun as a determinant of teacher’s performance in public and private sector universities functioning in Pakistan. Data collection trough questionnaires and appropriate statistical techniques helped in drawing viable conclusions. Workplace fun including congratulating one another and personal freedom helped in developing strong ties and performing well at universities. Moreover female teachers are more influenced with workplace fun as compared to male teachers. The results are beneficial for the university administrators and academicians equally.

Many organizations around the globe are facing a number of threats in terms of intense competition and hence employees’ intentions to switch the organizations. The current study is carried out to explore an emerging area of psychological ownership in relation to organizational Justice. The feelings of psychological ownership may provide the organizations a sustainable competitive advantage by enhancing the retention rate of valuable employees and making them to go for an extra mile for their organization. In this study we will be exploring the role of organizational justice as an antecedent of psychological ownership. The results of the study reveals that among the three dimensions of organizational justice (Distributive, Procedural & Interactional), procedural justice is found to be a strong predictor of psychological ownership. To prove the hypothesis of the study convenience sampling technique is used for data collection and about 37 useable responses from employees are considered for data analysis. Implications of these results as well as avenues for future research are also discussed.

Computational science and computers are great significance for a lot of studies conducted today. Storing the data is necessary for continuation of computational science studies more quickly and safely. Regression Analysis being used from the 1800s to the present day has been a statistical method to examine the relationship between one dependent variable and one or more independent variables. Regression analysis enables future events in the unknown future to be estimated based on the known findings, which makes the method the most preferred one especially in the health studies. This method is very important to identify the situation of disease, treatment process, and other possible complications and to prevent these problems in the light of the existing information.

This study estimated the real private consumption model for Pakistanby using the annual data from 1971 to 2013. The Autoregressive distributed lagmodel is used to investigate the short run and long run relationship between privateconsumption, labor income, wealth, interest rate and unemployment rate. In theshort run, current income, wealth, real interest rate and unemploymentrate affected the real private consumption growth while in the long run laborincome and wealth are significant. The numerical value of the coefficient of errorcorrection model (ECM) is -0.58, which propose that Pakistan’s real privateconsumption converge from disequilibrium in period (t-1) to equilibrium (t) on ahigh speed.

This study is an attempt to analyze and compare the financial performance of MCB Bank Ltd and National Bank of Pakistan by applying common size analysis and ratio analysis of financial statement of banks. The secondary data was utilized in analysis of balance sheet, profit and loss statements and other accounting information for the financial year 2005-09. Both banks are very important financial institution and are providing different facilities to the customers. The banks also give advances to the other industries, companies and other deficit economic units. The results obtained shows considerable improvement in financial performance by banks in both public and private sectors. The financial strengths of banks depend on the liquidity, profitability and the ability of banks to pay its debt. All these three have showed improvements but there are some of the financial indicators in both which still needs improvement like current ratio, return on equity and operating profit of both banks. The findings of the analysis of financial statements of both banks show that MCB had utilized their assets more efficiently and effectively as compared to NBP. The return on equity ratio of MCB Bank is much better then National bank of Pakistan for the FY-2005-09 which banks ability to produce earning & therefore is an excellent indicator both of viability & capability of banks management. Both banks must invest more in liquid assets like marketable security and market treasury bills to boost the trust of the depositors on banks. Both banks should also decrease their debt level in order to utilize the funds at the right time and at the right level to enhance their net profits.

Quality assurance and accreditation have become an essential part of higher education quality management all over the world. To ensure sustainable high quality education, it is essential to develop an internal quality culture in Higher Education Institutes (HEIs). The main objective of this study is to establish existence/non-existence of quality culture by using Internal Quality Culture (IQC) framework. The study will also identify the main impediments in the prevailing organizational culture of a HEI. The framework highlights four dimensions of IQC; Planning, Support, Execution and Assessment. Different indicators for these quality culture dimensions are analyzed by comparing the perspectives of three main stakeholders i.e. faculty, students and management. The results indicate that successful development of quality culture requires commitment and active collaboration of all the stakeholders. Moreover, the changing and conflicting requirements of the stakeholders influence the quality improvements efforts.

This research looks into the different effects of firms’ network structural positions in an upstream supply network upon the firms’ level of relational capital outcomes. Previous research has largely focus on the context of decentralized network structure. However, the supply network is a centralized network because of the existence of the focal firm. The existence of the focal firm may influence the impact of relational capital outcomes Objective: To determine the type of network structural postions required to obtain reasonable relational capital outcome in upstream supply network Results: Network structural positions i.e. degree centrality contributed to firms level of relational capital trust. Conclusion: Firms, embedded in upstream supply network benefits differently in terms of relational capital through different degree of embeddedness. Firms’ resources should be re-aligned to match the benefits with the different network structural positions.

The purpose of the study is to examine the impact of total compensation on pay satisfaction of employees in Telenor Pakistan. Data was collected through questionnaire and interview. It is revealed that fixed pay components such as merit increments are prominent unlike seniority bonuses in Telenor because of the fact that the company has a flexible pay structure of broadband. Broadband offer flexibility and easy salary progression as employees is not promoted to another grade but moved within band (in-grade promotion). Among the variable pay dimensions, goal based pay, accurate information use related to salary decisions, employee rights concern and information sharing regarding employee related decisions are much satisfactory at Telenor compared to other components of variable pay. In case of benefits, employees were highly satisfied with allowances, welfare programs and consider it reason for their motivation and stay in Telenor. Overall, equity in Telenor is nearly in balance and pay satisfaction over various components of total compensation has an nutshell positive effect in creating strong sense of belonging of employee with their organization.

Rawls Theory of Justice (RTJ) sheds light on the importance of fairness, justice and equity in society however application of RTJ in human resource management for better organizational performance and output presents some challenges which are harder than when applied to the society, e.g. fulfillment of “blind position” prerequisite. By applying Rawls theory of justice one can infer essential roles of fairness in human resource management of an organization and the modus operandi used for its implementation to increase its productivity or output. This paper discusses the primary issues seen in application of Rawls theory of justice (RTJ) in human resource management. It discusses essential ingredients of RTJ and prerequisites of applying this theory such as well-ordered society, acceptance of laws and regulation by majority. It further discusses what happens if these prerequisites are not fulfilled such as lack of wide ranging institutional support on basic rules of fairness and justice, lack of basic liberties and lack of fair equality of opportunities. These problems are examined in the light of RTJ and solutions are suggested for optimized human resource management .

“Culture” has a featured place among a large number of factors which are effective on the formation of house architecture. From time to time, it is observed that very different houses are formed in the same physical environment. Sometimes analogous houses can be seen under highly different environmental conditions. It is possible to mention the effects of different cultures and lifestyles on this. The study aims to reveal how the effect of privacy is reflected in spatial formation and architectural elements in Muslim-Turkish houses. The relationship of the Turkish House with the concepts of Ottoman, Anatolia, Muslim and tradition as well as coincidence and variations are addressed. The analytical and comparative method is employed in the study. The common elements in the architectural formation which are caused by the vital and cultural interactions in the Turkish houses in Anatolia and the Balkans are reflected in the form of analogies in the building façade character and in architectural elements. It is possible to gather the analogies in the Turkish houses not only in the context of Anatolia and the Balkans but also at different corners of Anatolia under the common ground of “culture”. The effects of culture are reflected in the house architecture in a wide range from the use of lattice in various spaces and elements to kapı şakşaks besides the openings which vary on the building façades depending on location and story. In this study, the concept of Turkish House and the thorough investigations into this issue are considered and the effect of the factor of “privacy” on the formation of Muslim-Turkish houses in Anatolia is examined from different perspectives. The subject is presented via the examples of Turkish houses selected from various localities of Anatolia. How the inward character of the Turkish house and its understanding of privacy are reflected in the details of an architectural building besides its façade and spatial construct is conveyed via examples. The thorough investigation concerned is of importance to see how culture and lifestyle are reflected on architecture – in other words, to read culture from the formation of a house.

Attaining sustainable development is one of the greatest challenges facing Pakistan today. A challenge that can only be met by developing and deploying confidence among the people. Transparency in project activities at all stages and other measures will also enhance its social and economic growth. By adopting sustainable practices and sensible policies, we mean that project activity should be economically viable, socially acceptable and environment friendly. In order to achieve this objective, there must be a continued commitment to encourage and ensure the community participation. Since Pakistan is an energy deficient country, it has to initiate power projects on a large scale in the near future. Therefore, it is the need of the hour to tackle these projects in a sustainable way, so that it can be benefited to the maximum possible level and have the least adverse effects on community and the environment. Thus, careful planning, efficient implementation, standardized operational practices and community participation are the key parameters which ensure the positive impacts on economy, prosperity and the well being of our people. This paper pinpoints the potential environmental hazards due to project activity and emphasizes to adopt sustainable approaches in power projects with community participation.

Media institutions have a great impact on the day to day life of the public. Information conveyed by these institutions can improve the relationship of the people or, on the contrary, create misfortunes among them. Due to this reason, in the development of media institutions, proper incentives are supposed to be put into consideration in order to make them worth to the target audience. On the other hand, media play an important role in conveying political, economic and also social news that is required by the public. To avoid distortion of information, proper management of what is conveyed by these institutions need to be put in place.

Current research was an effort to investigate emotional and behavioral problems in adolescents associated with both mother and father parenting styles. A sample of 300 adolescents from public and private schools of Lahore, (13 to 17 years old, Mean=14.8) were selected to participate in the study. Parenting styles (authoritative, authoritarian, & permissive) were assessed through parental authority questionnaire (PAQ, Buri, 1991) and emotional behavioral problems were screened with the Youth Self-Report (YSR: Achenbach, & Rescorla, 2001). It was hypothesized that i) there will be relationship between parenting styles and emotional, behavioral problems and ii) parenting styles will predict problem behaviors. Findings revealed that authoritative upbringing of both mother and father was established as most optimum style with significant negative relationship with problem behaviors while authoritarian and permissive parenting for mother and father separately as well as together was associated with different problem behaviors. Regression analysis showed that authoritative parenting predicted lower level of problems and authoritarian and permissive styles are significant predictors of emotional and behavioral problems. This research might contribute to create awareness among parents about the effects of their parenting styles on adolescents’ behaviors.

The main focusing of this study is to examine empirically the interdependence between female secondary school enrollment and economic growth of Pakistan taking the period of 1975-2014. The variables of the series passed the test of stationary by the first difference as found by the ADF and PP test. Therefore, by employing the Johansen test of cointegration, the result shows that female secondary school enrollment and labor employment have insignificantly long run positive influence on economic growth, however, capital formation has significantly positive impact on economic growth of Pakistan. The Granger causality test based on VECM shows that female secondary school enrollment and GDP have long run two-way causality, however, the short run bidirectional causality does not exist but unidirectional short run causality, which is running from GDP to female secondary school enrollment.

This study aimed to explore the representation of Taliban in the editorials of two leading English newspapers of Pakistan. Through the content analysis technique, the slant of the contents was measured. The slant of the editorials was further categorized into three subcategories; favorable, unfavorable and neutral. For one year, a total number of 352 editorials were specified for the Taliban by Dawn and The Nation. Findings of the study revealed that the slant of both newspapers was mostly negative towards the Taliban. Most interestingly, the slant was noticed to be similar with the stance of the government of Pakistan concerning Taliban. The print media have conformed the Pakistan’s foreign policy about the Taliban as they are terrorists. Therefore, the outcomes of this study have supported the Media Conformity Theory in the context of Pakistan.

Gender-sensitive reporting is a recent issue in the feminist media studies. Especially in the sphere of crime reporting, it is very necessary to maintain an ethical standard when one must report gender sensitive news. Gender-sensitive issues always involve feminist interpretations by the media practitioners, issues like domestic violence and sexual harassment are not properly reported by the newspapers. An element of the sensationalism is a major portion of the news related to the rape and kidnapping. Media should give special consideration to the gender-sensitive news with an eye of social responsibility and ethical boundaries should be seen in the report. In this research focus is given to the frequency of gender-sensitive news in terms of the gender representation and a comparison is given between frequency of crime news and gender-sensitive news in two newspapers which includes one Urdu and one English newspaper to advance the understanding about the coverage about the gender representation in the media. Additionally, a separate comparison among the gender-sensitive news stories is also analyzed to explore the frequency of gender-sensitive news covering the male and female. Then, further analysis is conducted to explore the gender-sensitive news stories which represents the women that how much coverage represents the gender-sensitive issues about the household women and working women.

Pakistan facing the horrific chapter of a decade-long war against terrorism. The series of consistent violence drawn disparity in social infrastructure to this war-torn country. Lack of research on psychosocial and cultural issues of war-affected children in Pakistan demanded this study to deal with the interpretation of the participant's narrations. As very little attention has seen on the transitional justice for war-affected children by stakeholders. Their experiences directly concerned with the issues of war and its effects on children. Study samples were the residential caregivers, child protection officers and NGOs officials narrated their experience on the psychosocial and cultural issues of children. Results of their narrative revealed that war-affected children experienced education withdrawal, abandoned with unhappy life, and breakup from social cohesion in a cultural domain with profound coping challenges. War-affected children should be rebounded and intact with families make them resilience and can be healed with fewer efforts. The target interventions of government and non-government institutions should be organized and framed on the re-integration and de-radicalization plan for war-affected children within the socio-ecological framework (microsystem and macrosystem). The policies and practices of all stakeholders should be tailored and intervened on children rehabilitation and prevention services from further exploitations.

Information System is an important computing discipline, but its curriculum is very diverse due to its multi-disciplinary nature. As a result, different academic institutions have given a different flavor to their curriculum. In this paper, we discuss implications of embedding Information Systems Environment component in an Information System curriculum. We discuss the results of a survey and highlight that there is a need to increase the motivation of computing students to undergo IS environment courses so that they can perform better in such courses. The discussion from this paper will help academicians in chalking out strategies to improve the performance of students in Information System Environment modules.

In this research, we are interested to investigate the presence of asymmetries in the long-run and short-run relationship between Pakistan oil prices and a set of major determinants of oil prices namely, Saudi oil production, world oil production, exchange rate, and spread. We use a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) bounds testing approach that allows possible asymmetric effects in both the short and long run. Results provide evidence of asymmetries in both short and long-run relationships among Pakistan oil prices and determinants under consideration. Considering the importance of asymmetric nonlinearity in this context, it is shown that the exchange rate bears more, a moderate of world oil production and Saudi oil production and up-to a lesser extent spread constitute an important determinant of Pakistan oil prices. Our findings have relevant implications for investors, speculators, and particularly for policymakers of Pakistan’s economy.

The study proposes that the Non-Performing Loans (NPLs) is a rare event. Consequently, this study proposes that the classes of time series modeling and macroeconomic approaches are not appropriate for the risk modeling and assessment of NPLs. Consequently, this study proposes Extreme Value Theory (EVT) as an alternative tool for the risk modeling and assessment of NPL. The data of Asian countries for the 28 quarters (2010-2016) available on the World Bank website is accessed for testing the proposition with the use of analysis techniques. It was found that extreme value theory could be the most suitable tool for the risk assessment of non-performing loans. Moreover, the study ranks the Asian countries concerning the risk of NPLs. Finally, the study discusses the implications for the financial institutions for NPLs and policymakers.

Second language writing research reveals learners performing poorly on writing tasks because of inadequate writing development resulting from ineffective writing instruction. This scenario prevails at the local higher education where the students are under prepared in academic English, which poses a challenge to them in coping with their studies; and English language teachers, are challenged to equip these students with the academic writing skills. This prompted the authors to plan a pedagogical intervention which is reported here. The study investigated the impact of explicit writing strategy instruction on the writing performance of 40 undergraduate students enrolled in English for academic purposes (EAP) course at a university in Pakistan. Employing the positivist paradigm and quantitative approach, a single group quasi-experimental study with an intact group of students was carried out. Participants’ choice of writing strategies (WS) (cognitive, metacognitive and social) for the writing process (pre-writing, drafting and reviewing) using a 5-point Likert scale, and a writing test for writing performance scores were the measures used prior and after the intervention to gather data for studying the impact of WS on WP. The intervention comprised orientation about the writing process and writing strategies followed by teacher- facilitated application of writing strategies on various academic writing tasks. The findings reveal explicit instruction helpful in teaching students WS which improved their WP. The study contributes to the limited empirical research about pedagogical intervention in second and academic writing in the context and the findings are significant for EAP teachers in similar settings to provide the much -needed academic support to the learners.

In this study two recognized public: Punjab University; Lahore College for Women University and two private universities: University of Management and Technology and University of Central Punjab have been investigated to observe the role of English as (L2) in Pakistan. A sample of 800 professional and nonprofessional media students has been analyzed under communication accommodation theory (Giles, H. 1971) regarding career development in journalism and communication studies departments. Questionnaire Instrument (α = .702) with 37indicators has scrutinized ESL and academic and professional competencies by multiple linear regression to find out their relationship. Findings have shown that selected alma maters bespoke positive significance regarding ESL’s impact in students’ instrumental and non-instrumental obligations. Moreover, J & CS students of PU and LCWU are more inclined towards ESL’s role in leverage, adoption, observance, expressiveness, liaison and individuality performance categories through ICTs and e-learning as compared to the students of UMT and UCP.

The last decade has undergone many regional and global war conflicts that have received worldwide attention. The human violence through wars has given rise to many human disasters and refugee crisis is one of them. With the persistently growing geo-political problems the situation of refugees is getting worse day by day. The sustainability of life has transformed itself towards domestic, social, political and state instability. The international cooperation lacks serious dialogue to address the refugee crisis. The particular inter textual study analyzes the aggravating state-terror activities by the certain fundamentalist militant groups (Taliban, Daesh) and their effects on the refugees especially female refugees by going deeply into two inciting books by Nujeen Mustafa(Syria) and Malala Yousafzai (Pakistan). The research encapsulates the effects of waron Zimbabwe, Nigeria and some Middle East countries including Iraq and Egypt generally, and Pakistan and Syria particularly. There are certain political and personal gains of the leaders pushing thousands of people to migrate. The constant struggle of two teenage refugee girls has been discussed as an integral part of the research and the components of female education and female determination is the core thought of the research study. The theoretical design of Refuge and Settlement has been employed to highlight the challenging circumstances for the refugees and their arduous task of resettlement in the different countries. By researching the motives behind forced flee of the refugees, it becomes evident that forced migration has become a contemporary issue of this century. The research study endeavors to find out the underlying issues and emphasizes the need of safe resettlement of the migrants across the world. The incidents of these two books I am Malala and Nujeen indicate the war-ravaging hegemonic attitudes of different terror groups that result in the unfortunate flee of hundreds and thousands of people. However, the audacious struggle of the two teenage girls by surviving the attacks and staying positive during the hard times is at once appealing and motivating. This research urges global attention to address the refugee crisis on humanitarian grounds by highlighting the resilience of two refugee girls as the ray of hope for many neglected and subjugated migrants.

The current surge of Covid-19 has affected the human world in entirety. It has brought the dynamic world to a standstill position. The current study is set to focus on the impact of Covid-19 on the educational sector in the context of developing countries such as Pakistan. In Pakistan before Covid-19, the educational sector was grappling with the issue of provision of basic education to every child as well as overcoming the gender disparities on each level of enrolments in educational institutes. The pandemic has further worsened this situation. The effects are more severe and vivid in the vulnerable communities and thus widen the gender gap in accessing education. Consequently, in order to unpack the impact of Covid-19 on the unprivileged female students’ learning process, their social and psychological issues, a qualitative research design using semi structured interviews was opted. The study showed that Covid-19 has increased and enhanced the vulnerability of this marginalized group and calls for initiative and incentives from the state and policy makers

Social media has changed the dynamics of marketing communication from monologue to interactive dialogue. This interaction has enabled the marketers to engage the consumers for favourable brand outcomes, dominantly the brand loyalty. The study examines the mediating effects of customer-brand relationship and customer-company relationship between the social media consumer engagement and brand loyalty; linked through the social-identity theory. This empirical research is based on the analysis of responses from the consumers of the banking sector. A total of 243 respondents were selected through the snowball sampling technique to gather data on structured questionnaire. Analysis was conducted using structural equation modelling technique in Smart PLS 3 software. Results indicate the stronger impact of social media cognitive and affective engagement on the customer-company relationship, while customer-brand relationship is largely impacted by social media behavioural engagement. Moreover, effect of cognitive engagement is lesser than the effective engagement towards the brand related outcomes. Building the customer-brand and customer-company relationship is important along with investing on the customer engagement initiatives. Engagement should be emphasized from three perspectives of cognition, affect and behaviour rather than merely from the behavioural perspective. Customer-brand relationship is more effective for favourable outcomes than the customer-company relationship. Based on empirical evidence, this study adds to the literature by studying the mediating role of customer-brand and customer-company relationship between the relationship of social media consumer engagement and the brand loyalty.

This study will contribute in understanding the perspectives of newly skilled and unskilled fashion illustrators, in regard to the selection from indicators of creativity, while making fashion illustrations. The indicators of creativity used in this research study are: aesthetics, effectiveness, elaboration, and novelty. The outcome of this study will help fashion advertisers, teachers, and professionals in knowing the perspectives of both the groups. After checking validity and reliability of the instrument, questionnaires were distributed among skilled and unskilled fashion illustrators to know difference in the perception of both the groups regarding the selection of indicators of creativity. Results showed that newly skilled fashion illustrators gave more preference to aesthetics and effectiveness in creative apparel designing. Coupled with this, much difference existed in the perspectives of newly skilled fashion illustrators and unskilled fashion illustrators. Therefore, it is recommended that the teachers should use different and innovative teaching techniques to guide the students in regard to the selection from indicators of creativity, during creative fashion illustration.

The present study aims to look into the problems faced by Pashto L1 teachers in the pronunciation of English labiodental voiced and voiceless fricatives /f/ and /v/. The study also focusses on their effects on the pronunciation of English the students at secondary level. The study is experimental in nature and quantitative approach was used for its data collection and analysis. A sample of four male teachers and eight students from four different schools (one teacher and two students from each school) in district Buner represented the whole population. The data was collected from the participants using high quality digital recorder Zoom H5 in a sound proof room. The word list contained various words having /p/, /w/, /f/ and /v/ at initial, medial and final positions. The findings of the study show the effects of bilabial voiceless plosive /p/ and bilabial voiced approximant /w/ on labiodental voiceless fricative /f/ and labiodental voiced fricative /v/ respectively. Pashto speakers articulate /p/ instead of /f/ and /w/ instead of /v/. The study further explored the reasons behind the erroneous pronunciation i.e. labiodental voiceless fricative /f/ is borrowed to Pashto from Arabic and is problematic for Pashto speakers while labiodental voiced fricative /v/ is not a phoneme in Pashto Phonetics.

The widening gap between the expectations of industry and the teaching and training practices followed by vocational institutions is a significant issue that needs attention and solutions by all stakeholders. The current study aims to explore the perceptions of teachers in the vocational Art & Design sector in highlighting key challenges of work-integrated learning while preparing a competitive workforce. The integrated learning approach can help develop both self-reliant learners who have limitations for an otherwise full-time training option and the regular vocational Art & Design students who need to get familiarized with the standards and requirements of their potential workplaces. Three research participants represent the specialized Art & Design areas including Fashion & Textile Design, Interior Architecture Design, and Graphic Design, whereas three industry experts from the same domains to triangulate the study. The qualitative approach of this research study helped in understanding the significant issues and potential challenges faced by the teachers in the dynamic training environment, where employability remains a core objective for all vocational institutes. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather maximum input and insight from all six participants. NVivo software is used to investigate data for a detailed thematic analysis. The study promises to present significant issues that need to be effectively bridged between training institutes and related workplaces to meet the requirements of demand-driven vocational practices, leading to successful implementation of Work-Integrated Learning.

The main aim of this study is to investigate the possible difference in reading comprehension performance through PBT and CBT of Pakistani second-year ESL learners at NED University of Engineering & Technology (NEDUET). For this purpose, n=62 subjects attempted three equivalent tests on each testing mode. For the analysis, paired sample t-test is used to juxtapose the means of test results gleaned from PBT and CBT. The results illustrate, examinees performed significantly better on CBT (M = 6.17) as compare to PBT (M = 5.69) at p < .05 level (note: p = .003). Furthermore, ANOVA is used to find out the potentially significant effect of reading performance on the ESL learners’ preferable testing mode for the future. The post-test result shows that pupils’ reading test performance has no significant main effect on their preference at p > .05 (note: p = .621) because mostly opted for PBT. Additionally, their perceptions about the pros and cons of both the testing modes are also discussed.

The purpose of this study is to explore TVET trainers’ understanding of engaging instruction through enriching training experiences. Participants’ engagement in the process of training is a challenging task since it requires them to engage trainees while dealing with diversity and different backgrounds effectively. The contemporary training practices and approaches in the TVET sector call for trainers’ attention towards maximising the participants’ engagement and learning by means of applying learner-centric instructional methodologies and processes. Competency-based training requires effective interaction between the trainer and participants. The role of feedback can not be undermined to achieve this task. This research study signifies the importance of effective TVET training by examining TVET professionals’ perspectives and their understanding of engaging instruction under three main themes: enriching training experience, trainer and participants’ interaction, and the expected role of TVET teachers. Purposive sampling was used to collect data from 21 TVET trainers who are professionally engaged in TVET institutes in Lahore, Pakistan. Semi-structured interviews were applied as a data collection strategy for collecting the lived experiences of TVET trainers. The analysis revealed that most trainers in the TVET sector believe that the training experience can be enriched provided there exists an effective interaction between the trainer and participants, and there is clarity on the expected role of teachers. Further suggestions and recommendations are proposed that are based on results.
